DPI Calculator

Enter your image dimensions in pixels to calculate the maximum print size at different DPI settings. For sharp photo prints, use 300 DPI. For posters viewed from a distance, 150 DPI is often sufficient.

How to Use This Calculator

  1. Find your image dimensions in pixels (right-click the file → Properties/Get Info).
  2. Enter the width and height in the fields above.
  3. Click "Calculate Print Size" to see the maximum print dimensions at 300, 200, and 150 DPI.

Which DPI Should You Choose?

  • 300 DPI — Photo prints, fine art, anything viewed up close. This is the gold standard for photo printing.
  • 200 DPI — Acceptable for prints viewed at arm's length. Good for larger prints where 300 DPI isn't achievable.
  • 150 DPI — Posters and large prints viewed from 3+ feet away. Acceptable for canvas wraps and wall art.

The Formula

The calculation is straightforward: Maximum Print Size (inches) = Pixel Dimension ÷ DPI. For example, a 4000×3000 pixel image at 300 DPI can print up to 13.33 × 10 inches. To convert to centimeters, multiply inches by 2.54.
