Which DPI Should You Use?
- 300 DPI — Professional standard for photo prints and anything viewed up close.
- 200 DPI — Acceptable for prints viewed at arm's length. Good for larger sizes where 300 DPI isn't achievable.
- 150 DPI — Posters and large prints viewed from 3+ feet. Acceptable for canvas and wall art.
- 72–96 DPI — Screen display only. Never use for print output.
The Formula
Print size (inches) = Pixel dimension ÷ DPI.
A 4000×3000 px image at 300 DPI prints at 13.33×10 inches. To convert to cm, multiply by 2.54.
